SEMSA: South East Metropolitan Softball Association
SEMSA Inc. (South East Metropolitan Softball Association, WA) was formed in the 1979/80 season by a group of players who decided they did not want to travel north of the river. The first season consisted of four teams, which was played at Ferndale oval. Since the inception of SEMSA the numbers have steadily grown in both the Senior and Junior competitions. At our largest, the association ran 18 diamonds over 3 grounds. At present, 10 diamonds are in use at 4 time slots, accommodating 49 Senior sides and 23 Junior and Sub Junior sides.
The association has always believed players that represent it deserve to be acknowledged in many ways; over the years from our representative side that have attended state championships and other affiliate associations, carnivals have developed many state players across all age groups. SEMSA today provides many players to the state league competion in Perth.
Junior development has always been a high priority at SEMSA. Many of the association junior players have numerous opportunities to attend a number of clinics conducted by elite softballers and State League players, that are supported by a band of dedicated coaches. It is from these that our young players are identified and encouraged to further their softball skill development.
Since the early 70′s SEMSA has had representative sides that have travelled within Western Australia, in the late 90′s the first SEMSA Masters team travelled interstate and now travel internationally to attend the World Masters games. In 2011 the association decided to send an U15 representative team to the Australian U15′s Regionals in Rockhampton, Queensland. This season SEMSA has returned to Rockhampton with a young team of promising players that have aspirations and goals to represent their state and country at a later date. These young players have shown their desire and dedication to improve by being involved in a selection process that began back in October 2011. Subsequently they have participated in the association carnival, Softball WA Metro Regionals in March 2012, the International Softball tournament SEAYBST in April 2012, and now the Rockhampton Australian Regionals.
